How Story, Voice, Purpose and Legacy Became the Foundation of Dr. Nay

Dr. Renee “Dr. Nay” White is a scholar, storyteller, media professional, author, speaker, and creative visionary whose nearly four-decade career has crossed education, leadership, publishing, media, cultural literacy, and the arts.

​

Scholarship. Culture. A Foundation for Storytelling.

 

Long before Dr. Nay stepped behind a television camera or microphone, she was exploring the power of culture, identity, perspective, and voice through scholarship and education.

​

Holding a doctorate in Educational Leadership with a collateral specialty in Multiculturalism, Dr. Nay spent more than three decades as a professor and scholar, including 30 years teaching graduate-level Cultural Literacy. Her work challenged future educators to examine how their own cultures, values, and “ways of seeing” influence how they understand and engage with people whose experiences may differ from their own.

Her scholarly contributions include nearly 20 peer-reviewed journal articles and book chapters, much of her work centered on cultural diversity and effective teaching, as well as more than 30 presentations at national and international conferences. Her academic experience also extended into publishing, where she served in editorial roles for scholarly journals and as a book proposal editor.

Today, that foundation reaches far beyond the classroom.

It informs how Dr. Nay approaches an interview, listens to another person's lived experience, explores the cultural influences behind a story, and asks questions that move beyond accomplishment to uncover meaning, identity, leadership, and legacy.

From Scholarship to Global Storytelling

 

Dr. Nay's expansion into media is not a departure from her scholarly work—it is an evolution of it. The same curiosity about culture, identity, perspective, and human experience that informed her academic career now shapes the questions she asks and the stories she tells.

Today, she serves as Senior and Journalist with Womenz Straight Talk Magazine and IMAG Media, bringing thoughtful inquiry and cultural perspective to interviews, special features, and event coverage. She also serves on the G100 USA Country Advisory Council for Media Arts & Communication, extending her commitment to women's voices, leadership, and cross-cultural connection into a global arena.

The Ancestral Call

 

Years later, researching her maternal ancestry revealed another dimension of that purpose.

Dr. Nay traced her family roots to free Black ancestors in Virginia dating to the late 1700s—men and women who owned land, raised families, and built community while navigating the profound racial restrictions of their time.

​

She became particularly fascinated by the women.

​

Their names survived in historical records. Their voices did not.

​

That realization transformed the way Dr. Nay understood her own journey. The child who might never speak had become a professor, author, speaker, media host, interviewer, and recording artist.

 

Her voice had become central to her purpose.​

​

The Ancestral Call continues to shape how Dr. Nay moves through the world—as a scholar, storyteller, media professional, and advocate for women’s voices. What began as a discovery of those who came before her has evolved into a commitment to preserve stories, honor cultural experiences, and create spaces where voices can be heard.

For Dr. Nay, it is about how purpose is passed from one generation to the next.
